School History

The Alfred and Adele Davis Academy was the vision of the Reform Jewish lay leadership in Atlanta who felt there was a need to provide a comprehensive, integrated Jewish education program for families affiliated with Reform Judaism.  A generous endowment given by the families of Ann and Jay Davis and Dulcy and Jerry Rosenberg, children of the late Alfred and Adele Davis, ensured the financial security of the school.  The Davis Academy opened its doors in the fall of 1992, with a total of twenty students - ten in Kindergarten and ten in First Grade.  In 1994, having outgrown its original site, The Davis Academy purchased 11.3 acres of undeveloped land on Roberts Drive in Dunwoody.

Phase I of the school was completed in 1996.  Phase II of construction, consisting of a separate Middle School wing and gymnasium, was completed in 1999.  In 2001, as enrollment began to exceed expectations, an adjacent 7.5 acre site was purchased for the expansion of our Middle School.  Following the successful completion of an ambitious $10 million Capital Campaign, our Middle School campus was built and opened in the fall of 2004.

The Davis Academy is now home to almost 700 students, building on more than 200 alumni, and thousands upon thousands of extended families, friends and supporters across the country and around the world.

The growth has been astounding, making The Davis Academy the fastest growing Reform Jewish Day School in North America, ranking us third in the United States in size.   In just over a decade, The Davis Academy’s educational program has received accolades both locally and nationally.  We are the only Jewish Day School and one of only five private schools in the southeast with Triple Accreditation from SACS (Southern Association of Colleges & Schools), SAIS (Southern Association of Independent Schools), and GAC (Georgia Accrediting Commission).

Our graduates are now entering colleges across the country and have shown exemplary academic and leadership skills throughout their school careers.   With The Davis Academy foundation, our students have demonstrated the ability to reach their highest potential, and have become responsible Jewish adults who will serve as future leaders of our community
