Nurturing the Development of the Whole Child
The thoughtful selection of age-appropriate, challenging curricula and creative classroom design, allow each student to develop the core fundamentals, while maintaining an emphasis on the social and emotional development of every student. Students learn skills and build confidence in reading, writing, and math while being inspired to explore and discover in social studies and science. While the foundation of our Menschlichkeit Values is deliberately laid in the Jewish Studies classroom, they are noticeably embedded in every part of the Lower Elementary experience. Small group differentiation, innovative technologies and unique teaching methods ensure that all students have the opportunity to achieve to the best of their ability, discover and grow individual talents, and build strong relationships with friends and teachers in a safe and comfortable environment.
Guided by Five Core Values
At The Davis Academy we Live Our Values Every Day, we L.O.V.E. We are guided by the values of community, respect, spirit, wisdom, and righteousness. These five core values are intertwined in everything we do, they define who we are and who we aspire to be.

Fifth graders were excited to partner with Mechina students for our Book Buddies program! This wonderful initiative gives our youngest learners a chance to bond with older students in the Davis kehillah and allows them to see fluent reading in action. Our fifth graders love the opportunity to be peer role models, showcasing both friendship and important reading skills. This partnership highlights the value of community and learning together across age groups!

On Wednesday, the entire 5th grade met with Mr. Sausmer (Mr. Jay) for a presentation on 9/11. The session began with an educational video that provided an overview of the events, setting the context for a deeper understanding. Mr. Jay then shared photos from his service after the attacks, highlighting how the country united in response, embodying the values of ruach (spirit), kavod (respect), and kehillah (community). This dedicated time to discuss such a tragic day in history is crucial, as it helps students grasp the significance of resilience and unity in the face of adversity.

Fifth-grade students put this question to the test as they explored the accuracy and efficiency of algorithms! Using the scientific method, students created hypotheses to determine whether a drone piloted by their own code or one controlled by human maneuvers could more efficiently navigate an obstacle course. Through this engaging experiment, students discovered the real-world power of algorithms, learning how precision and logical thinking play crucial roles in coding.

Kindergarten students had a delightful time reading "Simon and the Better Bone" by Corey R. Tabor, a Georgia Children’s Book Award nominee. They noticed Simon, the dog, staring at his reflection and giggled at his amusing antics throughout the story. Inspired by the book, they created beautiful symmetrical mirror patterns and reflected on its message about empathy and friendship.

We were over the moon to receive our worry stones back from the GlowForge laser cutter we designed during the first week of school. As you may recall, the book The Thing Lou Couldn't Do reminded us that we sometimes feel worries when we are faced with hard things in our lives; therefore, our creation of our personalized worry stones can be gentle reminders that we can do hard things.

This week, students across all grades had a blast exploring the world of algorithms! Kindergarten and First Grade students were especially engaged, using hopscotch blocks to create and follow their own paths until they reached the end. Learning algorithms and coding at a young age is more than just fun—it's foundational. By engaging in these activities, our youngest learners begin to understand the importance of sequencing, logic, and problem-solving.

Mrs. Measroch's 4A class in Jewish Studies brought the story of freedom from slavery in Egypt to life by acting out this pivotal chapter from the book of Exodus. The students had a great time reenacting the historical moment, deepening their understanding and appreciation of the significance of this event in Jewish history. Their performance was a vivid reminder of our gratitude for the freedom gained thousands of years ago. CLICK HERE for a glimpse!
