Davis Music

Students in Mechina through Fifth Grade participate in creative movement and expression, singing and playing rhythm instruments, as well as exploring famous musicians and composers throughout music history. Students learn proper music reading fundamentals and develop keen listening skills. Classes are geared to  introduce students to music from different historical  time periods and cultures. 

Students in Third through Fifth Grade have the opportunity to learn a variety of instruments from recorder to keyboards to ukeles. Our music teachers encourage students to love music by teaching them popular songs while implementing reading fundamentals, finger placement, scales, and keen listening skills. Students have the opportunity to perform for our community throughout the year. 

Fusion Rock is a Middle School elective  experience that provides students with expanded learning and performance opportunities in a contemporary, ensemble environment. Students explore a wide variety of musical genres, including: Rock, Blues, Top-40, Jazz, Pop and other genres. Our curriculum is highly energetic and follows the nine national standards set by the Music Educators National Conference (MENC). Students develop their individual skills, and rehearse in preparation for performances showcasing their incredible talents throughout the year. Students rock out with instruments such as guitar, bass, piano and drums as well as vocals, learning the fundamentals and putting it all together as a band! 

The Davis Decibelles, our Middle School singing ensemble, and the Magical Melodies, The Elementary Chorus, perform a blend of contemporary and Jewish songs. During the year they perform at a variety of events at school and throughout greater Atlanta, including sporting events, holiday celebrations and meaningful get-togethers such as Café Europa, a gathering of Holocaust survivors. As students work together, they enhance their vocal skills as well as develop leadership and public speaking skills.
 

The Davis Academy has produced four albums featuring more than seventy original compositions: Be a Blessing (2013), A Palace in Time (2015), Menschology (2017), and the most recently released Hello,Goodbye, & Peace (2019) featuring 18 compositions by Rabbi Micah Lapidus.  In 2019, the school officially launched its own record label, Davis Love Records, as a commitment to not only passing on the existing songbook of the Jewish people, but also to adding new pages to that songbook in the form of original compositions.
