It is with great joy and enthusiasm that we announce the honorees for The Davis Academy ‘s 26th Annual Community Golf Tournament: Debbie and David Kurzweil. As devoted alumni parents and tireless volunteers, Debbie and David have made invaluable contributions to The Davis Academy and the greater Atlanta community.

Debbie and David and their two children, Matthew (Class of 2011) and Emily (Class of 2013) have been part of The Davis Academy extended family for many years. The Kurzweil family’s relationship with The Davis Academy reflects the essence of our mission: fostering personal and professional growth, leadership within the Jewish community, and an unwavering dedication to family, friends, and community.

Debbie is a retired attorney who specialized in employment law during her accomplished career. She worked for a major Atlanta law firm and later in-house for a national company, where she developed and implemented nationwide employment training programs and managed litigation. Debbie’s expertise includes policy design, training, and strategies to mitigate discrimination litigation. After retiring from law, Debbie focused her energy on Jewish education and philanthropy. Debbie is a Past President of The Davis Academy’s Board of Trustees. Debbie has also held multiple leadership roles at The Davis Academy, including Annual Fund Chair, Board Secretary and Governance Chair. Her commitment to education also extends to serving on the Board of the Weber School and as Vice President and Governance Chair of Boston University’s Hillel Board. Additionally, she serves as a Trustee of the Jewish Women’s Fund, where she chairs the Governance Committee and volunteers for the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta.

David is the Co-Chair of Greenberg Traurig’s Global Restructuring & Bankruptcy Practice and Chair of the Financial Institutions Practice. With over 35 years of experience, David is a leading advisor to corporations, partnerships, and financial institutions across a variety of industries, including energy, retail, healthcare, real estate, transportation, and professional services. A recognized expert in Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases, David represents financial institutions, private equity firms, debtors, creditors’ committees, and trustees. His comprehensive skillset includes negotiating workouts from both creditor and debtor perspectives and leading out-of-court debt restructurings for financial institutions and companies. David’s achievements have earned him numerous accolades. He is a two-time recipient of the prestigious "Turnaround of the Year" award from the Turnaround Management Association. Additionally, he has been listed in the Chambers USA Guide every year since 2004 and has been recognized as a Georgia Super Lawyer annually since 2006. Beyond his professional accomplishments, David is a devoted supporter of The Davis Academy, including sponsoring its annual golf tournament for over 20 years. David also has been deeply involved in community service. He has served on the executive committee of Secured Financial Network and as a board member of its local chapter. His commitment extends to Boston University’s Hillel, where he served on the Board, and Temple Sinai, where he also contributed as a Board member.

We are thrilled to celebrate Debbie and David Kurzweil and their profound impact on our school and community.
